Happy 4th of July everyone! I hope that you are spending America’s birthday with friends and family. This day is all about celebrating independence. What are you doing to celebrate today?

And while waging a war for independence from the British empire may not be the same as getting divorced, I think there are a lot of lessons that we can learn from the revolutionists. Believe in yourself and your goals. Even though the road seems tough, the payoff is worth it. And never give up.

Today I’m spending the day eating all my favorite BBQ foods and then watching John Adams, the documentary on HBO (I’m not really a firework person). Living in Philadelphia, it is pretty powerful to watch our founders sign the Declaration of Independence on screen knowing that they did it in real life only a few miles from my home. In fact, I used to live a block from Betsy Ross’s house. She never seemed to be home though. If you ever get to Philadelphia, be sure to check out the Museum of the American Revolution. It is my favorite tourist attraction in Philadelphia.

243 looks great on you America!

So take this day to have fun and reflect on how you are going to celebrate your independence. Don’t worry if it doesn’t look perfect. America isn’t perfect either. But as long you keep going, you’ll get somewhere great.
